Bumper stickler

"Peace begins in the womb" reads the bumper sticker next to the Jesus fish on the non-descript four-door sedan in front of me on Los Robles. Just the latest in a growing list of Christian bumper stickers abundant in hypocrisy, self-righteousness, and faulty logic and short on compassion, understanding, and objectivity. [ed. note: Pardon the forthcoming departure from compassion, understanding, and objectivity...Chris acknowledges his own hypocrisy.]

Now, I understand the gist of the message. "Those who abort a fetus shatter universal tranquility," so saith the Lord, I guess. However, if one takes this argument to its logical conclusion, it is an anti-Christian message. Afterall, doesn't the Bible teach us that it all began in a garden, on that fateful day when God made himself an Adam? The first womb didn't arrive until Adam's rib became Eve. That womb wasn't occupied until Adam begat Cain. So, as I interpret the bumper scripture, this yokel would have us believe we didn't have peace on Earth 'til Eve got knocked up. That is if peace does, in fact, begin in the womb. Right? Am I right? Godammit, I hate faulty fortune cookie philosophy.

This one's right up there with, "You can't be pro-choice and Catholic." This one wouldn't bother me as much if I saw just as many that read, "You can't be pro-death penalty and Catholic." I guess we can pick and choose which scripture we want to adhere to.

Then there's the Jesus fish next to the post 9-11 "The Power of Pride" combination. These modern day disciples conveniently forget the seven deadly sins we are suppose to avoid: pride, envy, wrath...
PRIDE, it's the first one!

stuff I really shouldn't know

From 1910 to 1914 Yuma High School, in Arizona, used an abandoned prison as their campus. To honor this part of their heritage the school mascot is a"criminal". Check it out: http://www.yumahighschool.com/

If you travel to Lincoln, Nebraska you can visit Rathbone Village. Makes you wonder if the locals are cognizant of the assassination connection?

John Goodman told reporters the most disparaging aspect of playing Babe Ruth on the silver screen was having to actually lose weight in order to play the portly Yankee.

Mission to Saturn

If there existed a large enough bathtub, the planet Saturn could float in it.

This is one of the many interesting tid-bits of information I aquired tonight at the Eaton Canyon twilight learning bonanza of fun, introspection, and fraternity (I might be mis-remembering the actual name of the event, but it was something like that).
